Queensbury Senior Celebrates 105th Birthday, Shares Life’s Reflections

Cecily G. rang in the new year hitting a very special milestone – her 105th birthday! She celebrated the special occasion with friends and family at her home in The Landing at Queensbury. Born in 1920, Cecily has lived a life filled with family, faith, and cherished memories.

Friends, family gather at The Landing at Queensbury to celebrate Cecily’s wonderful life.

As a child, Cecily grew up in a lively household with five sisters. She looks back fondly on their holidays together as a family. Throughout her life, she has enjoyed going to church, listening to music, and socializing with friends—activities that continue to bring her fulfillment. When asked about the secret to her longevity, Cecily said, “Keeping busy!”

The British citizen served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. For her 100th birthday, she dazzled the community in her tailor-made uniform, and dropped the honorary puck at the Adirondack Thunder Hockey game on New Year’s Day.

What does a 105 year old consider the greatest technological advancement in her lifetime? Cecily chose the telephone and answering machine – citing its impact on how people communicate and stay connected. She also shared that Buckingham Palace in London, England, is her favorite place she has ever visited.

Her life has been profoundly influenced by her husband, Michael, and her daughter, Patricia. Among her favorite indulgences is chocolate, a treat she always enjoys. When reflecting on what advice she would give to younger generations, Cecily said, “It’s a wonderful life, so enjoy it.”

The New Year’s Day baby sat down with Julia Dunn of 13WHAM news to share more about her amazing milestone.

“Cecily reminds us all to celebrate life’s moments, big and small,” said Alisha Stosic, Executive Director of The Landing at Queensbury. “Her love of connection and her zest for staying active are inspiring to everyone in our community.”
