We’d like to share more information about our award-winning Connections memory care program. Continue reading to learn more about the benefits and costs of Phoenix area memory care.

What is Memory Care?

Memory care is specialized care tailored to individuals experiencing memory loss, typically due to Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. It’s important to choose a community specifically designed to meet the unique needs of people with memory impairments.

At Pegasus Landing of Mesa, our Connections memory care program is rooted in the latest neuroscience research. This program was started by Dr. Sandra Petersen, who discovered the benefits of neuroplasticity therapy after experiencing a stroke that affected her memory and mobility.

Our Alzheimer’s and dementia care community assists with activities of daily living such as:

  • Bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Medication management
  • Transferring and mobility assistance
  • Meals and eating

What is Neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt in response to new experiences. Research has shown that stimulating the brain through activities like exercise or playing an instrument can help improve memory and cognitive function.

Dr. Petersen used these techniques, along with activities like dancing and learning a new language, to challenge her brain and body in a way that helped her regain mobility and memory loss.

We’ve integrated this approach into our memory care program so residents can benefit from the latest neuroscience research.

Our Emphasis on Socialization

At Pegasus Landing of Mesa, we know that socialization and forming emotional bonds are crucial for people with memory impairments. That’s why our program puts a strong emphasis on community spirit, offering daily opportunities for social interaction, including:

The Cost of Memory Care in Phoenix

The average cost of Alzheimer’s and dementia care in Phoenix is $4,969 per month. The price can be a financial burden for some families.

Medicare does not pay for room and board in residential care facilities. However, there are various ways to help cover care prices.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance policies typically cover the cost of care for chronic illnesses, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. It’s essential to review the policy documents to determine which services are covered and whether there are any limitations on coverage.

Reverse Mortgages

A reverse mortgage is a loan that allows seniors to convert a portion of their home equity into cash. This can be a practical option for families who need to pay for memory care but don’t have the funds readily available.

With a reverse mortgage, the borrower receives monthly payments from the lender, which can be used to pay for memory care expenses. The loan is typically repaid after the borrower passes away or moves out of the home.

VA Benefits

Veterans and their surviving spouses may be eligible for a range of benefits that can help cover the cost of memory care. The Aid and Attendance benefit, for example, provides financial assistance to veterans who need help with activities of daily living, including memory care.

To qualify for VA benefits, your loved one must have served for at least 90 days, one of which was during wartime, and be able to demonstrate financial need.
