Everyone at Broadway Mesa Village has been talking about a momentous event: our beloved resident Vivian B.’s 106th birthday. We are honored and privileged to offer her our centenarian birthday greetings and a well-deserved celebration.
When she turned 104, Vivian told the Mesa Tribune, “I thank God for giving me all of His time.” Our caregiving team is also thankful because Vivian is a real treasure and a star of our Centenarian Club. She’s been with us for many years now and is a beloved member of our community.
Vivian has lived a long and storied life that’s worth sharing.
Vivian Was an August Baby
Vivian was born on August 31, 1918, in Opheim, Montana, where her father owned 400 acres of farmland. After the 1929 market crash, her family moved to Spokane, Washington, to live with relatives.
While attending college in Spokane, she met a young transfer student. After they locked eyes during a badminton game, he accompanied Vivian out to the soda fountain across the street. It was love at first sight: Cliff and Vivian spent the next six months together until they eloped to Idaho in 1940. The couple was married for 71 years and had two sons.
Vivian helped run a ski shop in Sacramento for 40 years. And for the past four years at Broadway Mesa Village, she’s enjoyed daily exercise and activities with the other residents. Vivian has also been a driving force behind the community’s Bible study group.
What is Vivian’s secret to longevity?
When asked this question, Vivian answered: “I’ve had God and Jesus with me all my life since I was in third grade, guiding and protecting me.”
Vivian also feels lucky that she had the opportunity to attend college. She stays fit by keeping active and socializing with her Broadway Mesa Village peers.
Truth be told, we’re the lucky ones.
Happy Centenarian Birthday Celebration, Vivian!
