Navigating Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia isn’t easy. When you begin to see signs of memory loss in a loved one, it’s important to be informed about your options. When caring for your loved one is the most important thing on your list but you aren’t sure where to turn, you need to connect with people who understand.
We’ve navigated memory loss, too.
We know how stressful it can be to search for resources and not know where to turn. It’s emotional and overwhelming. At Creston Village in Paso Robles, we can help. Our Connections Memory Care is a unique, research-based program designed to help seniors with Alzheimer’s and/or dementia lead a stimulating life. We offer a secure environment, a committed and caring staff, and a variety of activities designed to fit the unique needs of those living with cognitive decline.
Inspired by Experience
When Medical Director Dr. Sandra Petersen suffered a stroke, she lost movement on one side of her body and her speech was severely impaired. Working with a brain specialist, she began to rebuild pathways in her brain by utilizing concepts of neuroplasticity. Today, we apply those concepts along with her 30-year knowledge and background in the memory care field to our unique approach, the Connections program.
“The whole experience gave me not only sympathy, but empathy for those that struggle with cognitive decline,” says Dr. Petersen.
Our Connections Program
We support your loved one by:
Engaging the emotions | Activities designed to trigger memory and positive emotions like aromatherapy, SingFit to improve speech/mood, art, crafts, and their own hobbies |
Encouraging movement | Supporting the mind/body connection with careful supervision. Creston Village residents can participate in boxing, walking clubs, and other fitness programs to help them achieve an active body and mind. |
Challenging the brain | Engaging residents in word games, book clubs, reminiscence therapy, and a brain-healthy diet. |
Supporting socialization | Research indicates that socialization benefits mental health and cognition. We provide a variety of group activities that allow residents to foster relationships and connect with others. |
What level of care is included in memory care?
We can help your loved one regain a sense of security. Memory care typically means a separate wing of the community for supervision and attention toward residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s.
At Creston Village, a licensed nurse in our community is at the head of our specially-trained team of memory care professionals. We can take care of your loved one holistically, meaning we care for the whole person. We monitor health and medications, but we also engage our residents physically and mentally with an array of fun activities and exciting excursions.
You want the best for your loved one and so do we. We’ll care for them with specialized resources so that you can rest assured that they are happy and secure. We know a decision about your loved one’s care is a big one, and you probably have many questions. We can help get you the answers you need.
