Atlanta is a big town for sports. For seniors, watching the games with friends and family brings back fond memories and encourages a sense of community; it reminds retirees that they are never alone.
Our beloved resident Gilbert turned 100 in February 2024, and his love of baseball is legendary throughout Dunwoody Place.
As a big Braves fan, he finds joy in seeing his team play. As we celebrate Gilbert’s incredible journey, it’s vital to remember that embracing interests—whether rooting on the home team or spending quality time with loved ones—creates a fulfilling lifestyle.
About Gilbert
Gilbert was born in Southern Illinois in 1924 and is a World War II veteran. A cherished husband to Marjorie for over 63 years, his household was filled with the laughter and love of his daughter, two sons, and countless grandchildren (he humbly admits he’s lost count of exactly how many).
Gilbert’s military service shaped his character, leading him to a successful career as a controller and director of purchasing at Boland Pianos.
He moved to Dunwoody Place in April 2018 and embraced his Atlanta senior living community with positivity and open arms.
As he shares his secrets to longevity, one sentiment shines through: “Get you a good wife, and she will make sure you take good care of yourself.” This heartfelt advice underscores the importance of partnership and support systems in life.
In Gilbert’s view, the greatest technology ever invented is the television—perhaps this senior sports fan feels that way because it gives him a front-row seat to all the Braves games!
