The HIPAA Privacy Rule aims to protect privacy of our residents through increased accountability in the areas of privacy and security of Protected Health Information as legislated by the federal government (PHI). The HIPAA Security Rule provides extensive specific rules and mandates the protection of PHI in electronic formats.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule requires compliance by certain Pegasus Senior Living communities because these communities electronically transmit PHI related to health care claims, payment or coordination of benefits. These communities subject to the HIPAA Privacy Rule we identify as Covered Entities.
