At the peak of her career, Patricia “Pat” J. made her mark as a model in the 1940s, working at Chicago’s famed Kling Studio. The prominent advertising agency paired Pat with clients like Coca-Cola and the Tucker Automobile. And six decades after her work, she’s still vibrant with a glowing smile, celebrating her 100th birthday in January.
The centenarian’s party was celebrated by friends and family at Historic Roswell Place, which offered cake and entertainment to recognize the momentous occasion. Pat also enjoyed a reappearance in front of the camera, and spoke with 11Alive about advice on living a long, happy life.
“Be grateful for all the good that God gives you,” she told the local news. “And your wonderful families – and try to give back when you can!”
Born in River Forest, Illinois, Pat led a life filled with style, grace, and creativity. She became a resident of Historic Roswell Place in 2019. She was married to her husband, Walfred, for 44 years before his passing. Together, they built a loving family that includes five children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Her lifestyle has always been active and fulfilling. Her favorite hobbies include: golfing, Bingo, horse races, music, and painting. Her creativity also extended to writing – She took classes for 10 years!
Pat names radios, telephones, cars, and TVs as the greatest technological advancements that have shaped her life over the past 10 decades.
“Ms. J is proof that style and grace only get better with time,” said Saron Coney, Executive Director of Historic Roswell Place. “We’re beyond excited to celebrate this milestone with her and hope the community will join us in honoring a century of her fabulous journey.”
