“Everything kind of moves slow here, but when they come,” a resident of Ridgeland Place said of a recent visit of kids from Wee Care Learning Center, “nothing’s slow. Everything’s moving fast!”
The recent intergenerational program was a big success. Over a dozen children, ages 4 to 5, participated in the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the senior living community. The kids had a blast — but the seniors who call Ridgeland Place home had even more fun.
“It brings back memories of when I taught little ones like this,” resident Brenda Butler told reporter Brooklyn Joyner from WAPT news. “I was in a classroom, and the commitment that I made when I did get my teaching degree reminds me to enjoy children because all children want is for you to love and care for them.”
The Easter Bunny made an appearance, which had children from the Wee Care Learning Center and seniors from Ridgeland Place both lining up for a photo opportunity.
“We want them to feel loved and cared for,” Life Enrichment Director Vicky Gilbert told Joyner. “Some people feel like when they come to assisted living, life is over, but it’s just beginning!”
The senior living community’s Executive Director, Michael Ryan, backed his team member’s sentiments.
“This is something many of our residents look forward to,” he concluded. “Bringing together different generations for shared moments has a way of creating experiences that stay with people.”
