A unique activity at Ridgmar Place is keeping independent living senior residents afloat in more ways than one during these unprecedented times. Floating meditation class is the newest therapeutic exercise offered that involves seniors floating and clearing their thoughts in the community indoor saltwater pool. Life Enrichment Director Alicia Darbishire came up with the idea as a way to reduce anxiety and stress for the residents. Only eight residents max are allowed per class to allow proper social distancing protocol. With the class happening three times a week, however, there is plenty of opportunity for all of the residents of Ridgmar Place to participate!
There are many benefits to floating for seniors. Floating can increase blood flow throughout the body and reduce pain, muscle tension, stress, and anxiety. This is an especially helpful tool for those who are aging. Floating also increases feelings of relaxation, well-being, energy, and ease of movement.
