The Village at Rancho Solano celebrates its own “Puzzler Extraordinaire,” Robert B., a 92-year-old resident whose puzzle-solving skills have gained attention in the community.
Robert developed a love for puzzles after becoming a resident three years ago. He is known for completing jigsaw puzzles with focus and patience. Robert has become a local figure, transforming puzzles into works of art. It is not just about the finished picture; it is about the journey and the satisfaction when the last piece fits.
“I don’t think any of us expected to be so mesmerized by jigsaw puzzles, but here we are,” said Morgan Whinery, Executive Director of The Village at Rancho Solano. “There is something satisfying about watching Robert methodically conquer these puzzles. The focus, the strategy, the triumph—it’s inspiring to everyone around.”
In a new development, Robert has been working on his first 3-D puzzle: a flower vase that holds water. Morgan gave it to him, and he was impressed with the design. Robert even put his current puzzle aside to begin this new challenge. The community looks forward to seeing the finished project!
In the meantime, residents and staff gather to watch Robert solve puzzles. Occasionally, his daughters join him, providing opportunities for conversation and quality time. Once a puzzle is complete, Robert seals it with glue and sends it to his grandchildren as a keepsake. “I enjoy sending these to my grandchildren,” Robert said. “It brings them joy and gives me the opportunity to share my hobby with them.”
Robert’s dedication to puzzling challenges his mind and brings him a sense of accomplishment. His puzzle-solving sessions have become highlights of the community, where every resident brings something special to the table.
