At The Village at Rancho Solano, love stories are not just cherished; they’re celebrated. Among the vibrant community of seniors, two remarkable couples stand out.
Together, their stories remind us that life’s sweetest moments are even better when shared with someone special.
Al and Dotty: A Love Story Born in Alabama
In 2024, Al and Dotty P. marked over 60 years of marriage — a journey that began in Montgomery, Alabama. Al, 83, and Dotty, 82, met as teenagers, living just four blocks apart. Al’s determination to court Dotty was evident from the start; he even bought a book on how to approach her parents, winning their trust and eventually her heart.
Al, a valedictorian and Air Force Captain with a master’s degree in public administration, built a successful career in financial services. Dotty balanced her roles as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), a financial services professional, and a dedicated mother to their three children, now grown.
“Their love story touches the hearts of everyone in our community,” said Executive Director Morgan Whinery.
Bob and Dorothy: Fairfield’s Beloved “Lovebirds”
Bob and Dorothy R., affectionately known as “The Lovebirds,” are another enduring married couple at The Village. Originally from Nebraska and Minnesota, respectively, their romance began at church and has flourished for more than 60 years.
Parents to seven children and grandparents and great-grandparents to 19, Bob and Dorothy have built a legacy of family, faith, and fun. Whether they’re dominating Bingo games, cheering on the San Francisco Giants, or dancing at social events, their zest for life is undeniable.
Kelly Terrell, Life Enrichment Director, highlighted their impact: “[They] are a perfect example of what we’re all about here at The Village: celebrating life, love, and community. Their energy is contagious, and they bring so much joy to our residents.”
Love in Every Corner of The Village
Both couples exemplify the vibrant, loving spirit of The Village at Rancho Solano, where residents are encouraged to cherish every moment, pursue their passions, and build meaningful relationships. From Al and Dotty reminiscing about their Alabama roots to Bob and Dorothy lighting up the dance floor, their stories inspire all who’ve experienced the joy of knowing them.
