He Knows That Texas is One of the Best States to Retire for Quality of Life
Town Village Crossing resident Doland exemplifies why Texas is one of the best states for senior quality of life. Born August 7, 1922, in Austinville, Alabama, his journey has taken him through a century of life experiences.
Doland embraces the Lone Star State’s warm climate, rich culture, and welcoming community at Town Village Crossing.
We recently celebrated Doland’s 102nd birthday, but this former bachelor also married his sweetheart, 95-year-old Bettie, last February. Their grandson filed an application to the Guinness Book of World Records for Doland and Bettie to be recognized as the oldest newlyweds!
“Doland has shown us that life is all about enjoying the ride and making every moment count,” says Polly Sherman, Executive Director of Town Village Crossing. “We celebrated his 102 years and shared his infectious spirit with everyone.”

Doland’s impressive career as past President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Southern Fabrication Steel Factory in Arlington, TX has given him a wise outlook on longevity and health.
