At Town Village of Leawood, two remarkable residents — Bill and Paul — remind us of the richness of life and the stories that shape our world. As WWII veterans and centenarians, their lives are filled with lessons on resilience, family, and the keys to longevity.
A Century and Counting for Bill
Bill D. celebrated his 103rd birthday on October 21, 2024. Born in 1921, he’s lived through monumental shifts in history and technology, yet he attributes his longevity to simple yet profound habits: maintaining a balanced lifestyle, staying active, and enjoying the nutritious meals at Town Village of Leawood.
For Bill, the airplane stands out as the most impactful technological advancement he has ever witnessed. “It brings families closer together, regardless of distance,” he says, marveling at its ability to connect loved ones.
Having been a resident of Town Village for over eight years, Bill’s presence exemplifies the vibrant, enriching atmosphere our community creates.
Paul’s Life Well-Lived
Paul W., whose 102nd birthday is November 16, 2024, shares a similar enthusiasm. Born in 1922, Paul served in WWII’s Pacific Theater and later led a thriving career as the owner and president of American Textile Mills – Nu Towel Company.
His days revolve around family, with children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all playing an integral role in his happiness.
Whether he’s playing bridge, watching classic Westerns, or exploring modern advancements like artificial intelligence, Paul embraces a well-rounded lifestyle. He credits his longevity to finding balance and enjoying indulgences — always in moderation.
Honoring the Past, Embracing the Present
“Having residents like Bill and Paul is a tremendous honor for all of us at Town Village of Leawood,” says Melanie Basham, Life Enrichment Director. “Their life experiences and perspectives are invaluable, and celebrating their birthdays with them is a reminder of the incredible journeys they’ve had and the wisdom they share with all of us.”
As we celebrate these milestones, Bill and Paul inspire us to cherish small moments, adapt to change, and connect with those throughout our community.
